New Nederland City Hall to open to public on Monday

Posted: Updated:

Nederland City Hall workers spent their rainy Friday morning moving into their new, more efficient office environment.

The brand new City Hall offers employees more functional workspace and improved safety features.

New safety glass is going to be installed in front of the water billing office at the front of the building.

You'll have to swipe a clearance card to get to the finance department and vault area.

City workers say the people of Nederland will like the new building because their services will be easier to access.

"In the other building they'd be lost and didn't know where to go because we were all the way in the back," said water bill collector Sherry Mitchell, "now when they come in we'll be able to catch them and direct them in the direction they need to go.

The $1.3 million building on 12th street between Boston and Nederland Avenue took about seven months to build.

It was paid for through a fund for capital projects and will be open to the public on Monday at 8 a.m.

The old City Hall is being renovated to house the police and fire departments and give them more space.

The city manager says that building should be done in August of next year.
