Retailers Seek Holiday Help

Posted: Updated:

(KCEN) – Think it's too early to start thinking about the holidays? Think again. Local retailers are already seeking holiday help and posting those part time jobs.

According to the National Retailers Association, last year around 700,000 people were hired nationwide specifically for holiday jobs.

"This is the time to be thinking about holiday jobs. If you wait too much longer you may miss out on opportunities," Killeen Workforce Solutions supervisor Wendy Ann Damon said. "Right now we're seeing local employers post those season positions."

Damon says starting this month, their office will see 25% more people coming in looking for jobs, and if you wait until November or December for those temporary jobs, you'll be out of luck. "It's very hectic. We have lots of folks coming in trying to brush up their resumes," she said.

Damon says they've already seen postings from stores like Best Buy, and they'll see openings at Toy's R Us, Target, Wal-Mart, stores located in the mall, and other electronic stores as well as delivery services. According to a Kohl's press release, they're planning on hiring around 50,000 people nationwide just for holiday help.

"This is also a way to get your foot in the door," Damon said. "You may be looking for full time jobs right now, but really this is the time to look for those seasonal jobs."
