Man airlifted to hospital after fall from rigging device

An 18-year-old man was air-lifted to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont after he fell at least 20 feet from a rigging device Thursday morning.

The accident happened just before 9 a.m. at Oxbow Carbon & Minerals located in the 3900 block of Coke Dock Road in Port Arthur.

The worker's name has not been released, but officials say he is a Filipino crew member of the Norwegian Star Isford Ship.

The worker was securing a piece of the late crane they were transporting when he fell into a cargo hold.

Port Arthur firefighters and the Huntsman rescue team responded and got the man out using a rope and pulley system. A Battalion chief said the man was conscious the entire time and was complaining about head and back injuries.

This is a developing story.  Check back for updates.
