Mom accuses Central assistant coach of using excessive force to break up fight

BEAUMONT -

Carey Augustin said she is disappointed that her son got into a fight, but what has her speaking out are the actions of adults within the Beaumont Independent School District.

Augustin said she's experienced nothing but unprofessional behavior from BISD staff, starting with what she considers to be the coach's abusive actions.

Augustin said on the morning of September 3, 15-year-old James Augustin got into a fight with another student.

The assistant principal called Augustin to the school.  Augustin said when she arrived she saw that her son's elbows and knees were scraped and bruised.

James was suspended for three days, but what his mom claims she didn't know was how he suffered his injuries.

She said another student told her and showed her instagram video, showing Coach Derrick Scott tackling her son.

The 36-year-old Scott has been an assistant football coach at Central since August 2012.

Augustin is also upset that Central High and BISD administrators have not taken her concerns seriously.

That's why she says she's going to file charges against Scott.

We contacted the Beaumont Independent School District for a response, and spokesman Ron Reynolds told us that it would be improper of them to comment on a video that they have not seen.

Coach Scott is a former West Brook High and University of Texas football player.  He's also known for hosting football camps for kids.

Last September, Scott was one of thirty people who applied for the head football coach's job at Central.

State records show he has a probationary educator certificate that allows him to teach physical education.
