Woman and step-father killed in I-10 accident


A spokesperson for the Department of Public Safety has identified a woman and her step-father who were killed in an accident on Interstate 10 Wednesday morning.

Trooper Stephanie Davis said Mylena Chavez, 24, and Michael Holm, 62, both of San Antonio, died in the accident.  Family members of the deceased have been notified.

Trooper Davis said Walter Holm is the son of deceased, Michael Holm.  Walter Holm and Mylena Chevez were siblings.

The accident happened just after 4 a.m. on Interstate 10 at the Boyt Road underpass.

Chavez and Holm were passengers in a Toyota Corolla that rear-ended a tractor-trailer in the westbound lanes of I-10.  

The driver of the Toyota, identified as Walter Holm, 21, of San Antonio, is recovering from surgery and is listed in critical condition.  The driver of the 18-wheeler, identified as Yusifu Sillah, 57, of Houston, has been released from the hospital.

Trooper Davis said that all drivers and passengers were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.

The accident shut down the westbound lanes of the Interstate between Smith Road and HWY 365 for over an hour.  The lanes of traffic  were reopened just before 6 a.m.

The accident remains under investigation.
