(KCEN) -- An accident involving a dump truck and a Bruceville-Eddy school bus occurred on the southbound I-35 access road Monday afternoon.
The collision occurred just before 4:00 p.m. at the 318 exit in Lorena. The bus had sixty students inside at the time of the accident.
Emergency officials had to use the jaws of life to remove the bus driver from the wreckage. The bus driver and one student were life flighted out from the scene.
Approximately 17 children were taken to the hospital for various injuries.
A teacher's aide was thrown from the bus but appears to have suffered no major injuries. The dump truck driver is also OK.
The dump truck was carrying a load of large rocks.
The Bruceville-Eddy fire department arrived on scene with assistance from Bruceville-Eddy and Lorena emergency response units.
Parents rushed to the scene to take their children home. A second Bruceville-Eddy school bus arrived to take the remaining children home.
The wreckage is being cleaned up.
No word on the cause of the accident yet.
