Attorneys for the Beaumont Independent School District Wednesday argued before District Judge Donald Floyd that a November 5 trustee election should be held.
Critics of the district say an election would be illegal.
Three candidates are fighting to be included on the next trustee election ballot and Wednesday trustee candidates Donna Forgas and Linda Gilmore testified.
Jefferson County attorney Tom Rugg and BISD demographer George Korbel also took the stand.
Korbel explained his experience with the Voting Rights Act.
Rugg testified the school district has no authority to call its own November election under state law.
At the end of the day, Judge Floyd adjourned without a ruling; asking the parties to return September 18.
