With the drought situation worsening, burn bans are in effect for many counties across the state. Here in Southeast Texas, Tyler county is the latest to go under a ban.
Since June 1st, rainfall deficits are over one foot in many communities. Too many hit or miss showers and storms have not been enough to keep up with our seasonal averages. Summertime is usually the wettest time of the year, but that has not been the case in 2013. Over the last week, drought conditions have actually improved in Jefferson and Orange counties, with the worst now over Liberty, Tyler, northern Jasper, and northern Newton counties. Still the overall drought situation is nothing like what we experienced in 2011.
