Vandal targets Beaumont city councilman

Posted: Updated:

A Beaumont city councilman and well known attorney needs your help identifying a vandal.

It happened to Ward 2 City Councilman and Attorney Mike Getz who has been heavily involved in legal challenges involving the Beaumont Independent School District.

Late last week,  someone threw a chunk of concrete through a window at his law firm and it was caught on video.

Councilman Getz said he got a call from his alarm company around 1 a.m. Friday.  Police were already on scene when he arrived.

The vandal did not try to get inside Getz's office.

Getz said the city does not have time for this type of petty vandalism.

"I think it is despicable that anybody would do this to anybody in the city. Whether it's throwing a piece of concrete through a window, stealing copper, or defacing property in anyway. There's no room for that," Getz said.

Getz said he managed to fix the window immediately the next morning.  He said it cost a little under $200.

Councilman Getz said he plans to file charges to the full extent of the law once the vandal is caught.
