Dispatcher meets 12-year-old who hid in closet during burglary

PORT ARTHUR -

The Port Arthur police dispatcher who talked to, and calmed, a 12-year-old Port Arthur boy as he hid in a closet during a burglary, finally met the young man face-to-face Tuesday.

Deion Murdock was home alone last week when police say two men broke into his house. Deion hid in mother's closet and called 9-1-1. The dispatcher, Latonya James, kept Deion calm throughout the terrifying experience.

The room was filed with tears as the two met Tuesday at the Port Arthur Police Department.

Dispatcher James told Deion over and over "you're just a brave, courageous boy."

Deion gave Dispatcher James a pink heart-shaped watch.  Pink is her favorite color.  She gave him a basket of goodies.

The Port Arthur Police Department gave Deion an honorary PAPD patch.
