Southeast Texans pay tribute to 'Mama Wes'


Funeral services were held Friday at the Port Arthur Civic Center for the mother of rapper Chad 'Pimp-C' Butler.  He was half of the rap music group UGK.

Weslyn "Mama Wes" Monroe lost her battle against lung cancer Sunday. She was 66.

The other member of UGK, Bernard "Bun B" Freeman was a pallbearer.

Her sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority Incorporated, held an "Ivy Beyond The Wall" ceremony.

Councilman Derrick Freeman gave a few words.

About 150 people attended to pay their last respects.
