BISD seeks court order allowing November board election

Posted: Updated:

Jefferson County Clerk Carolyn Guidry said she has been informed by the Texas Secretary of State's office that a court order would be required before the county could hold a November election for the Beaumont Independent School District.

That's because the law limits school trustee elections to when city and county elections are held.

BISD filed for a declaratory judgement in 172nd Civil District Court Judge Donald Floyd's court Wednesday, but he has not ruled in the case.

The terms of three board trustees expired in May.

Those trustees are Gwen Ambres, Tom Neild and Janice Brassard.

Board attorney Melody Chappell says they will remain in those positions until an election is held.
