Man in custody following Beaumont SWAT standoff

A man who sparked a SWAT standoff in Beaumont Monday morning is in jail.

Around 11:30 a.m. Beaumont police officers were  called to 5375 College St where a hotel clerk said a man used a gun to threaten a hotel employee after the employee told the man he needed to clean the carpet in the room.

Police found out that the man, identified as John Lynn Norris, 73, had been staying at the hotel for several months and that he had an outstanding warrant for deadly conduct out of Hardin County.

The SWAT Team was called to the scene.

Police officers made several attempts calling the room and asking Norris to come out.

Norris later came out on his own and was arrested for reckless conduct and the warrant of deadly conduct.
