SETX military and first responders honor Sgt. Maddox

Posted: Updated:

The Southeast Texas community came together Friday to welcome home a local soldier for the last time.  Military personnel and first responders from throughout Southeast Texas were in force to honor a man who lost his life while serving our country.

As his plane touched down, the body of Sergeant Anthony Maddox was greeted by the local Coast Guard and an Honor Guard filled with active military personnel.

Once the procession began the Patriot Guard lead the way as dozens of first responders blocked the route making it possible for Sergeant Maddox and his family to get to the funeral home.

Deputy Rod Carroll says now is the time for the community to support the family.

"It's going to take them time I think as a community we need to support them, we need to make a presence, we still have tomorrow at the funeral," said Carroll. "I think we need to let them know that we honor their son who they cherished."

Deputy Carroll says the volunteer fire departments from China, Nome, Bevil Oaks, Labelle Fannette and Hampshire were also helping during today's procession.

Sergeant Maddox's funeral will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Beaumont.
