Services tentatively set for Nederland soldier killed in Afghanistan

Funeral services for tentatively set for a Nederland high school graduate who died after being severely burned in a non-combat related incident in Afghanistan.

22-year-old Army Specialist Anthony Maddox died on July 22. His family says he moved from Illinois to Port Arthur as a high school junior to live with his mother.

The funeral service is tentatively planned for Saturday, August 3 at 10 a.m. at Antioch Baptist Church located at 3920 West Cardinal Dr. in Beaumont.

According to a press release from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, they are still unsure as to exactly when Maddox' body will arrive at  Jack Brooks Regional Airport. They say they expect it to be Thursday or Friday. They say once he does arrive home, Maddox will be escorted to Gabriel Funeral Home in Port Arthur via the following route:

* Leave Jack Brooks Regional Airport

* Left on NB Hwy 69 Service Road

* Right on Spurlock

* Right on 18th Street (Pass in front of Nederland High School)

* Right on Helena

* Left on 21st Street (Pass in front of Nederland Bulldog Stadium)

* Left on Nederland Ave

* Right on Twin City Hwy.

* Right on Gulfway Drive

* Left on Woodworth

* Right on Proctor (Terminate at Gabriel Funeral Home, 2500 Proctor,

PA)

The Sheriff's office is asking that individuals who live or have a business along this route display an American flag in Sgt. Maddox's honor.
