Officials release name of teen killed in ATV accident

Authorities have released the name of a teen who died as the result of an ATV accident Thursday.

Officials identify him as Brandon McCain of Bon Weir.

According to a spokesperson for the Newton County Sheriff's Office, around 1 p.m. Thursday two 911 calls came into dispatchers about a 14-year-old who was riding an ATV on FM 2460 when the ATV was struck by a car.

When Chief C. Hall and Deputy J. Logan arrived, they found McCain 10 feet from the ATV.  McCain had head injuries from the accident.  He was taken to Jasper memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 3:05 p.m.

According to the DPS report, McCain was riding an ATV on County Road 4067 and ran a stop sign. Wanda Rosemon, of Bon Wier, was driving a 2007 Toyota Camry eastbound on FM 2460 and struck the ATV.
