Family hopes murder trial will provide answers

Posted: Updated:

A family is hoping a trial scheduled to start Monday morning will bring answers to many questions over their murder of a family member.

Joe Nathan David Jr. is accused of killing barbershop owner Curtis Shaun Hubbard on April 3, 2011.  David was arrested two months later for the shooting.

A spokesperson for the Jasper County Sheriff's Office said Hubbard was found slumped over the steering wheel of his Ford Excursion.   People living in the area reported hearing gunshots and a loud crash in the moments leading up to the discovery.

Investigators say Hubbard's SUV was littered with bullet holes. The sheriff's office says Hubbard hit a road sign and ran over some culverts before his vehicle came to a stop.

An autopsy confirmed Hubbard died from a gunshot wound to his back.

Hubbard's sister Cassandra gave 12News a statement on behalf of the family saying "I want justice for my brother. We are ready to find out what happened to him. We have been having a rough time and not a day goes by where we don't think about him. He is so missed."

Jury selection is set to begin in the district courtroom of the Jasper County Courthouse Monday. Judge Craig Mixon is presiding over the case.
