Orange man assaulted, killed following birthday party

A man from Orange is dead and another man in jail charged with this murder.

Around 10:30 p.m.  Thursday officers were called to 570 Lilac St. in Orange where they found a man, identified by police as John W. Lee Jr, 38, of Orange, unconscious in the yard. Lee had injuries to the head and face. Witnesses at the scene told police that Lee had been assaulted by his step-son, who had fled the scene prior to officer's arrival.

A police spokesperson said several people were at the residence celebrating Lee's birthday when the attack happened.

Lee was taken to the emergency room of Baptist Orange Hospital by Acadian Ambulance Service. He was pronounced dead at the emergency room.

Officers found the step-son on Gunstream Lane in Orange.  He is identified as Robert Wyatt Walter, 21, of Orange.  He was charged with murder and taken to the Orange County Jail.

Sgt. Chad Hogan with the Orange County Sheriff's Office told 12News bond for Walter has been set at $250,000.
