OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WPMI) A Pensacola woman is facing child abuse charges after officials say she threw her baby towards a sheriff's deputy who was trying to stop her for shoplifting.

Twenty-three-year-old Ashley Taylor Wright was arrested Monday around 7 p.m. Officials with the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office say Wright was attempting to steal clothes from a Dillards. They said she went into a fitting room but came out without the merchandise.

A sheriff's deputy attempted to stop Wright in the parking lot and that's when officials say Wright placed the 3-month-old baby, who was in a carrier, in front of her saying, "You will have to shoot through the baby to get me."

Wright and the deputy began fighting before she was arrested.

Wright was taken to the hospital for a laceration to her head. She's charged with theft, child abuse without great bodily harm and resisting an officer without violence.

The baby was not injured. Officials say Wright's husband and two other children were waiting in a vehicle in the parking lot.
