A home-invasion suspect is in critical condition as officers look for a second suspect following an attempted home invasion in north Beaumont.

A Beaumont Police Department spokesperson said the incident was called into dispatchers shortly before 3 a.m.   The spokesperson said a man and woman were at home in the 4300 block of Dallas Avenue when they heard someone at the front door. The man got his gun and went to investigate.

A man at the front door,  who appeared to be around 25-years-old, asked for some gasoline.  The homeowner stepped out on his porch to speak with the man and was immediately attacked by a second man wearing a Halloween-style mask.  The home owner responded to the attack by shooting the man in the mask three times, once in the head.

The man who was not shot fled on foot.

The man who was shot was taken to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont where he is listed in critical condition.  Charges of Aggravated Robbery are pending.

Officers found a small caliber handgun and a BB gun at the scene.  Both are believed to be used by the suspects.

Officers are looking for the man who got away.

This is a developing story.  Check back for updates.
