12News gets first hand look inside Beaumont Exotics

Posted: Updated:

Exotic animals seized from a home in Orange last week have a new home with Beaumont Exotics animal rescue.

12News got exclusive video of the animals Thursday.

An Orange County judge ordered the limited liability company keep the animals. Originally, Orange Animal Shelter was to care for the animals and then adopt them out but a judge changed the order the following day.

Exotic and domestic animals were seized from a house in the 900 block of Texas Avenue in Orange last week. The animal shelter says the animals were found living in deplorable conditions.

"You can not in anyway slack as far as taking care of these animals," Mandi McKee, Co-owner of Beaumont Exotics said.

For the safety of families and the animals Beaumont Exotics limits visits to people who have passed an application process.

Since opening in 2007, the organization has never allowed a video camera inside its facility until now.

The exotic animals now in the organizations care are recovering well according to the animal's veterinarian. Those taken from the home in Orange include Dwarf Caiman Crocodiles, African Spurred Tortoises, and a Coatimundi. The organization also houses a number of other animals like a zebra, camel, and a Pig Tailed Macaque which is a member of the Orangutan family.

12News confirmed that the organization is operating under all licenses and permits needed from the United States Department of Agriculture and Texas Parks and Wildlife.
