Singer Randy Travis hospitalized in critical condition

The publicist for country singer Randy Travis says in a press release that Travis has been admitted to a Texas hospital and is listed in critical condition.

According to the press release, the 54-year-old Grammy winner is suffering from complications of recently acquired viral cardiomyopathy, an infection of the muscle of the heart.  Travis was admitted into the medical facility Sunday.

Viral cardiomyopathy is a disorder where a virus attacks the muscles of the heart, causing the heart to beat slower, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's website.  In some cases, the heart can stop, it said.

Travis is known for "Three Wooden Crosses," "Forever and Ever, Amen," "Diggin' Up Bones," and "Deeper Than the Holler".
