Nederland brothers begin historic journey at West Point

Posted: Updated:

For the first time in almost 30 years, three siblings have been accepted for the same class at the US Military Academy at West Point.

The academy accepted 18-year-old twins, Sumner and Cole Ogrydziak along with their 19-year-old brother, Noah, to the class of 2017.

The Nederland High School graduates began their basic training earlier this week. They're expected to be formally accepted into the Corps of Cadets during an acceptance ceremony in August.

The boys come from a military background. Their grandfathers were in the military. Their father is a Captain in the U.S. Coast Guard and that's where he met their mother who served 10 years.
"It's exciting. I'm proud of them, we're blessed. We prayed because we weren't sure they were going to get in, they all got in at separate times," Kristine Ogrydziak, their mother, said.

Noah was actually turned down from coast guard academy and has already done a prep year at West Point.

Noah hopes to become an electrical engineer.

Sumner also wants to be an engineer but is unsure of which type he wants to be and Cole wants to work in the medical field. The last time the academy accepted three siblings into the same class was 1985
