Orange man killed in Nederland accident

Posted: Updated:

A man who died in an accident in Nederland Tuesday night has been identified by authorities as James Lacy Francis, 58 of Orange.

Nederland Police Chief Darrell Chief Bush said shortly after 8 p.m., Francis was driving his Mini Cooper on Highway 69 southbound at a high rate of speed.  Bush said Francis drove off of the roadway near Viterbo Road.  This is close to the Jack Brooks Regional Airport.  The Mini Cooper went through a ditch striking a concrete retaining wall.  At that point the Mini Cooper flipped several times throwing Francis out of the car.

Chief Bush says Francis was not wearing a seatbelt.

Jefferson County Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace Judge Marc DeRouen pronounced Francis dead at the scene.  Judge DeRouen has ordered an autopsy.
