Authorities identify three dead in McFaddin Beach shooting

Posted: Updated:

A spokesperson for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office has identified three people who died Sunday in an apparent murder-suicide on McFaddin Beach.

Deputy Rod Carroll said the deceased are Lauren Michelle Brack, 31, of Groves; Regino (Gino) Antonio Maybit, Jr, 34, of Groves and the shooter Eric Omar Barragan, 32, of Bridge City.

Deputy Carroll told 12News that calls began coming in to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office dispatch center around 4:39 p.m. Sunday reporting a shooting in progress at McFaddin Beach. Deputy Carroll said when officers arrived they found that three people, including the shooter, were dead. Deputy Carroll said the gunman's injuries appeared to be self-inflicted.

Deputy Carroll said the shooting appears to have happened after, "...the termination of a relationship between Lauren Brack and Eric Barragan."

A Sheriff's Office news release issued Monday afternoon says it appears that Maybit and Brack were in a relationship.

12News spoke to a close friend of Maybit. Desiree Delarosa says Maybit was a wonderful father who never met a stranger.

"He was very outgoing. He had a huge heart," she says.

Maybit leaves behind one young son.

Delarosa says "First and foremost, he was a dad. His son was his world, his life, and that's what he lived for."

Brack leaves behind two young daughters. Deputies say the two girls were witnesses to the shooting. A family friend tells 12News the girls were in Beaumont Monday for counseling.

Barragan leaves behind a son and a daughter.

The investigation into the shooting is on-going. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is requesting that anyone that was present on the beach and witnessed the shooting to contact detectives division at 409-835-8411.

Jefferson County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Judge Marc Derouen has ordered an autopsy.
