Police say wrong-way driver arrested after hitting motorcycle

One person has been arrested and another taken to the hospital after police say a wrong-way driver struck a motorcycle in the 1700 block of Cardinal Drive then fled the scene.

The accident happened shortly after midnight.  A police officer on the scene said a truck was heading north in the southbound lanes when it hit the motorcycle.  The driver of the truck did not stop to render aid.

The motorcycle rider was taken to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth.  The officer said the truck was found at a nearby apartment complex and the driver was taken into custody.

Two people who said they are witnesses told 12News they had to swerve to avoid being hit by the truck.

As of 6 a.m. the name of the man arrested has not been released.
