Police identify bicyclist struck and killed in Vidor

A Vidor Police Department news release identifies a bike rider killed Friday morning as Randy Holley, 32, of Valley Mills, Texas.  A family member of the victim notified 12News  that the victim's name is actually Randy Holland, 42, of Village Mills.

Holland was riding a bike on Orange Street near the Vidor High School campus around 1:30 a.m. Friday when a Jeep Wrangler driven by James Lunsford, of Winnie, left the roadway striking a utility pole, then the bicycle.

Mr. Holland was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Janice Menard.  Judge Menard has ordered an autopsy.

Mr. Lunsford was taken to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont with what is described by police as minor injuries.  He was treated and released.

An investigator took a blood sample from Mr. Lunsford  to be sent to the Texas Department of Transportation for analysis.

The accident remains under investigation.
