Entergy gives fans to “Beat the Heat”

Posted: Updated:

We're one week into summer and as temperatures rise into the triple digits over the next couple months thousands of Southeast Texans will be struggling to stay cool.

To help fight the hot summer struggle Entergy is hosting its 13th year of the "Beat the Heat" program where they're providing 1,300 fans to charitable and nonprofit agencies throughout Southeast Texas.

Then those organizations give the fans to people with lower incomes who qualify.

The Salvation Army in Beaumont is giving out more than 120 fans to senior citizens like Gloria Anderson who says right now she has no way to keep her home cool.

To receive a fan from the Salvation Army you must be 62 years of age and older and all you have to bring is a valid ID.

But remember those fans are given out on a first come first served basis.

"Some other place" is giving 40 fans to people who are apart of their meal delivery service.

The US Center for Disease Control estimates that every year around 300 people in the US die from heat related injuries.
