Playing bridge to support Alzheimer's research

Posted: Updated:

Alzheimer's is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States and a local organization is participating in an event called "The Longest Day" to support those battling the disease.

The Beaumont Bridge Studio is hosting a 16-hour bridge event to help raise funds for the fight against Alzheimer's.

Research suggests keeping your mind stimulated as you age can reduce the risk of developing the Alzheimer's disease and the game of bridge is like exercise for your brain.

So maybe playing bridge can help fight the startling statistics: there are more than 5 million people in the U.S. battling Alzheimer's and one out of every three seniors die from the disease.

Just two months away from his 91st birthday Rudy Williams plays bridge three days a week and encourages others to pick up the game.

All the funds raised at "The Longest Day" event today will go directly to the Alzheimer's Association for the care, support and research of the disease.
