Arrest made in Port Neches robbery


A spokesperson for the Port Neches Police Department told 12News a man wanted in connection with the robbery of a convenience store located at 3180 Merriman St., was arrested in Port Arthur early this morning.

The suspect was arrested around 4:30 a.m. and charged with evading arrest.  More charges are pending.

Police believe the man arrested in Port Arthur is the same person who robbed the Super Star #2 in the 3800 block of Meriman Street around 10:45 p.m. Monday.  Shorly after the robbery a police officer spotted the suspect's car and a chase began which ended when the driver crashed his car in the 6300 block of Highway 69.  The suspect fled into nearby woods.

Police set up a perimeter and for at least three hours searched for the man with police K-9's and a helicopter. The search continued until the man's arrest in Port Arthur.

Police have not yet released the suspect's name as of 10 a.m.
