Neighbors demand city fix Port Arthur "stink hole"

Posted: Updated:

Port Arthur residents in the 3800 block of Dryden Road say it's hard to breathe in their neighborhood because an awful odor is coming out of a sinkhole near the road.

Living about a block away Sherryl Lockhart first noticed the huge sinkhole nearly two years ago.

She says the city only recently covered it with a blue tarp and put up orange fencing.

For the past year and a half Lockhart says she's been contacting the Environmental Protection Agency and the City of Port Arthur asking that someone solve this problem.

Lockhart is now demanding that the city fix what she calls the dangerous "stink hole."

We tried contacting the Port Arthur Public Works office but did not get a response.

Lockhart and her daughter plan to go to the next city council meeting on June 25 and voice their concerns about the "stink hole."

They say they won't stop searching for answers until the problem is fixed.
