Board to vote Tuesday on salary table, no teacher raises in coming school year.

Posted: Updated:

Beaumont ISD Superintendent Timothy Chargois presented a couple of his key strategies to balancing the upcoming school year budget at a special meeting last night.
Chargois says the district can put full focus on one budget after Governor Rick Perry signed house bill five that saves BISD almost $4 million.
He is asking that employees pay $69 per month for health insurance.

Currently BISD employees don't have to pay for coverage and the district picks up the $460 monthly tab per employee.

The employee contribution would save the district an estimated $2.6 million. Tuesday the board will vote on a salary table.

Which indicates teachers will not receive a raise this year. However if his plan passes he says the 2014-2015 budget could offer teacher raises.

Because teachers won't get raises neither will Superintendent Chargois. Trustees also voted to approve map 7I going forward with redistricting and a November election.

Attorney Melody Chappel says map 7B is out of the running because the justice department has questions about the map that the school district can't answer.
