Louisiana man killed in Tyler County head-on collision


The Texas Department of Public Safety has released the name of a man killed in a head-on collision between a pickup and a cement truck Thursday.

A DPS spokesperson said the man who died in the accident is Jimmie W. Firmin, 45, of Zachary, Louisiana.

The accident happened on U.S. Highway 190 in Tyler County, about seven miles east of Woodville.

The DPS spokesperson said Firmin was driving his pickup west on Highway 190 around 3:30 p.m.  when he crossed the center stripe and struck an oncoming cement truck.

Firmin was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cement truck was being driven by Cory Miller, 24, of Jasper.  He suffered a laceration to his knee and was taken to Christus Jasper Memorial where he is listed in stable condition.

The accident remains under investigation.
