Parents commend teachers for quick response after funnel cloud develops in Bridge City

Posted: Updated:
BRIDGE CITY -

Days after that monster tornado hit Moore, Oklahoma, Mother Nature generated some moments of fear for school children in Bridge City Friday afternoon.

A funnel cloud developed over the city at around 1:30 p.m.

Many of the 600 students at Bridge City Intermediate School were participating in the school's annual "Summer Send-off" Carnival.

Teachers and staff wasted no time responding and getting all the students to a safe place.

That swift response earned them lots of praise from parents and students.

Principal Tara Fountain told 12News the school conducts drills throughout the year for different emergency situations.

Friday, they used the duck and cover response, in which the kids go to specific classrooms and get under desks.
