UPDATE: Man charged with murder of Jefferson County woman held on $2 Million bond
UPDATE: A spokesperson for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office told 12News bond has been set for James Martin Chaney, 44, of Hamshire, who is charged with murder in the shooting death of Tina Gail Aubey, 42, of Hamshire.
Judge Layne Walker set Chaney's bond at $2,000,000.
Investigators say Chaney shot and killed Aubey at a home located in the 15600 block of Heckaman Loop in Hamshire.
Deputy Rod Carroll told 12News the shooting was reported around 11 a.m. Thursday. He said a man who lives next to the house on Heckaman told investigators that Chaney walked to his house and asked if he could watch the kids because he had just shot the children's mother. He said Chaney then fled the scene with the kids.
The neighbor told 12News that Tina Aubey had moved out of the house a few months ago.
A deputy constable from Jefferson County Precinct 4 Constable's Office saw a vehicle leaving the house. He followed it; giving out the direction of travel undetected by the driver. The vehicle stopped at the gas station at 24740 IH-10 (near Hamshire Rd). Deputies from the Constable's Office and Sheriff's Office approached the driver, later identified as Chaney, as he got out of the vehicle. Chaney was arrested without incident.
The two children were found inside the vehicle. A Sheriff's Office spokesperson said they were unharmed. The kids are currently staying with family members.
Deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Medics from Hamshire EMS and Winnie Stowell EMS went to the house on Heckaman Loop, where they found Aubey with multiple gunshots. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Judge Ray Chesson.
