DPS identifies person killed in Jefferson County accident
A spokesperson for the Department of Public Safety has identified a man who was killed in an accident in Jefferson County.
Robert Edward Dewees, 47, of Jefferson County, lost his life in a five-car collision that happened on FM 365 near Hillebrandt Road Friday afternoon.
Dewees was driving a 1996 Ford Truck eastbound on FM 365 when he lost control of the truck and veered into the westbound traffic lane. A westbound driver's vehicle was struck head-on. Dewees was thrown from the vehicle and hit by a car.
A spokesperson for the Labelle Fannett Volunteer Fire Department told 12News the call came in around 11:20 a.m. The spokesperson said a 911 caller reported two cars in the water of Hillebrandt Bayou. When emergency responders arrived on scene, they found that novehicles were submerged in water.
FM 365 was shut down for just over two hours while crews worked the accident.
A news release issued by the Department of Public Safety says others injured in the accident include Sharon Milligan, of Orange, Donald Nolan, of Orange, Alvin Arrietta, of Beaumont, Radanes Arrietta, of Beaumont, and William Anderson, of Beaumont. All were taken to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth.
