Few vote early in Port Arthur city and school elections

Posted: Updated:

Early voting for city and school elections in Jefferson County ends Tuesday.

Early voting numbers show polling locations have not been very busy.  Of Port Arthur's more than 38,000 registered voters, barely more than 1,000 cast a ballot by Friday.

Port Arthur Mayor Deloris Prince is challenged by City Councilman Harold Doucet and Lowra Reado-Harrison.  All candidates agree, they want to better what they call a "dilapidated" city. Neither candidate believes the low voter turnout has made campaigning especially difficult.

If the low voter turnout trend continues, only four percent of registered voters will have cast ballots by the end of the day Tuesday.

Voters will have one last chance to cast a ballot on Saturday, election day.  Follow the link on the left side of this page for a list of Port Arthur voting locations.
