Anonymous flyer has wrong information

Posted: Updated:

An anonymous flyer is floating around the Little Cypress-Mauriceville area telling residents to vote no on the proposed $56 million bond issue.

But district administrators want voters to know a lot of the information on it is wrong.

The bond, which is on the May 11th ballot, is to pay for major reconstruction projects at all campuses to improve classrooms and student safety.

The district's assistant superintendent, Greg Perry, says their funding is based on daily student attendance and the flyer exaggerated that number by 70 students.

The flyer also said the district gets about $20.6 million in state funding but Perry says in reality it's just under $14 million.

However, some information on the flyer is true.

If the bond is passed there will be an approximate 34 percent increase on yearly property taxes.

Perry says the average LCM resident would have to pay about $25 a month more in property taxes.
