Workers of Exxon-Mobile in Baytown are threatening to strike over safety concerns.
Union members are citing, among other things, the fire at the downtown Beaumont refinery that killed one contract worker.
12News learned chapter members of the United Steelworkers Union at the Baytown refinery stated Monday they had issued a 60- day notice to Exxon-Mobil of its intent to strike.
The union had requested Exxon-Mobil update some safety procedures and improve education efforts.
Exxon-Mobil has encountered safety problems in recent weeks, including an oil spill in Arkansas as well as the April 17 fire at its Beaumont complex That killed Dustin Creekmore and injured 11 others.
