People in the north end of Beaumont complain their streets are neglected

Posted: Updated:

Beaumont City Councilman Audwin Samuel says bad streets are the toughest challenge facing the city.

That's nothing new to people living in the city's north end.

In a special report titled, "A Tale of Two Cities", we spoke to some of those people who say their streets don't get the same amount of attention as the ones in the more affluent west end.

Councilman Samuel says all parts of the city get the same amount spent on street maintenance.

He just says the north end is older, and the streets are asphalt as compared to the newer neighborhoods in the west end, with cement streets.

Samuel says to get all streets to the level they should be, a tax increase is necessary.

He says currently the city spends $2.5 million a year on street maintenance, when it should be spending $8 million annually.
