"Cops" reality show to film in Beaumont

Posted: Updated:

Watch out "bad boys" of Beaumont, the popular long-running reality TV show "Cops" is coming to a neighborhood near you.

Beaumont Police Chief Jim Singletary says a "Cops" producer contacted him a couple months ago to talk about bringing the show to Beaumont.
"He said he did a little research on us. He's from Texas, and he likes to do Texas police departments," said Singletary. "And he's heard some good things about our department."

At Tuesday's meeting, Beaumont City Council members voted unanimously to let the department be filmed for the show.

"I think it'll show what a fantastic job our police officers are trying to do out there everyday," said Councilman Jamie Smith. "And I think it's a testament to the job they've been doing so far."

Singletary says a camera crew could be in town by the end of the week, and will follow willing officers around during patrols for about 8 weeks.

Singletary says the agreement won't cost the department or the city any money, and that he's excited for the exposure it will bring.

"It will be good for the city of Beaumont and will be a good recruiting tool, good for morale, and I think it's a good thing overall," he said.

Singletary says he was told the episodes filmed in Beaumont won't air until 2014.
