Port Arthur man identified as victim in fatal Highway 69 accident


A Port Arthur man is dead following an accident on Highway 69 Saturday morning.

A Department of Public Safety dispatcher told 12News the two-vehicle accident happened around 12:15 a.m. on U.S. Highway 69 just south of the intersection with Neushaffer Lane in Hardin County.

The next of kin has been notified and the man who died is identified as Christopher Lee Henry, 34, of Port Arthur.

According to the initial report filed by troopers who worked the accident, Henry was driving a 2002 GMC pickup and rear-ended a 2005 Dodge pickup driven by Bryce Adam Higgenbothem of Hillster.  Henry's truck left the roadway and hit a tree.

The report says Higgenbothem was not injured in the accident.

Henry was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:15 a.m. by Hardin County Pct. 4 Justice of the Peace Judge Kent Walker.  Henry's body was taken to Broussards Mortuary in Silsbee.

The accident report shows Henry was not wearing a seat belt.
