Kirbyville teacher charged with solicitation of a minor

A Kirbyville Independent School District teacher has been accused of having an improper relationship with a student.

According to a statement issued Thursday morning by the Kirbyville Police Department, investigators received the accusation against Choir Director Christopher J. Thompson, of Lumberton, on March 28. Mr. Thompson was also an assistant band director for the district.

Mr. Thompson was placed on suspension. He resigned his position on April 5.

A police department spokesperson said texting between a student and Mr. Thompson began mid December 2012 and ended the day the accusation was filed with police.

Charges of solicitation of a minor were filed against Mr. Thompson on April 21 and he was arrested on April 24.

"The student was victimized by the teacher and manipulated by constant messages of a sexual nature," says the written statement from police.
