Crime spree inspires Beaumont neighborhood to take action

Posted: Updated:
West End residents of Beaumont are taking action to stop crime in their neighborhoods. Residents are working on a Dowlen - West End Neighborhood Crime Association. The first step was a meeting held Tuesday night at Saint Jude's Catholic Church.

Organizers were surprised by the turn out as hundreds filled the Church's gymnasium.

Beaumont City Councilman W.L. Pate along with police officers were on hand to answer questions and concerns.

The association would stretch from Dowlen to Major, and from Gladys to a little past Phelan.

The association has created a facebook page but only neighbors can be accepted to it. The Police Department will inform residents on crime statistics during each meeting.

The turn out at Tuesday's meeting was so big, the association is considering breaking into smaller groups.

The association can be reached at its facebook page which is linked above.
