Plant explosion in West hits home

Posted: Updated:

As the residents of West, Texas, are left to pick up the pieces after Wednesday's explosion one Nederland woman, who used to live in West, is trying to unite local community efforts to help those affected.

Robyn Boudreaux lived in West for six years and considers the small, close-knit community to be her home.

Her family owns a rental property less than a half mile from the fertilizer plant.

She's thankful her renters got out safe but she's told the home is destroyed.

Boudreaux says because town surrounds the plant the explosion has affected the entire community.

To learn how to help those affected by the blast Boudreaux set up a Facebook page called "Donate to West."

Boudreaux says her community is in need of donations of water, clothes and hygiene products.

Donation drop-off locations include the Lamar University Setzer Center, Madison's and Goodfellas.
