Nederland Police Chief Darrell Bush tells 12News that Joseph Garrett Arredondo, 26, of Nederland, fired seven shots inside his mother's apartment Wednesday evening. Chief Bush said Hollie Ann Arredondo, 55, was hit by six of those shots.

Police say the son forced his way into her apartment as she called the Spindletop Center seeking help for her son.

Arredondo is in the Jefferson County Jail on a $2 million bond.  He's facing capital murder charges.  Chief Bush expects he will be formally charged Friday.

Friends of Hollie Arredondo are remembering her.  One of those friends sent 12News a photo of Hollie taken in 1974, when she was voted "Most Beautiful" by her classmates.

Hollie was an LC-M High School Class of '75 graduate.

Her high school friends describe her as a "beautiful soul", and they say they are in shock.
