Grand jury indicts man for manslaughter in fatal crash

A 21-year-old Beaumont man has been indicted on accusations that he caused a Dowlen Road crash that killed an 88-year-old woman, all over a cell phone.

A Jefferson County grand jury returned the indictment against  Courtland Bobenoaux.

The crash happened on February 24th, in the 900 block of Dowlen Road.

Police say Bobenoaux wanted to turn around to get a cell phone he had forgotten.

He is accused of grabbing the steering wheel, leading to a crash that killed Vallie Wilkinson and injured another woman.

Bobenoaux faces charges of manslaughter and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

He's in the Jefferson County Jail, on bonds totaling $95,000.
