ORANGE COUNTY -

The Port Neches and Orange communities are mourning the loss of a teen who was killed in an accident Thursday afternoon.

Blair Ray, 16, of Orange, attended school at Port Neches-Groves High School.  She was killed and another person injured just after noon Thursday when Ray's 2006 Ford Mustang crossed the center line on FM 1078 crashed into a Mercedes.

Deputies and employees of the Orange County Sheriff's Office are also impacted by the accident.  Ray was the daughter of Orange County Sheriff's Office Lt. Tom Ray.

The accident happened near Bancroft Road just east of Highway 62.

Debra Jefferson, 54, of Orange, the driver of the Mercedes, was taken to the hospital.  She is now listed in fair condition.

Ray was enrolled in a work program of the Port Neches-Groves school district and employed at Market Basket.  Her co-workers say she was focused, energetic and always happy.

Starsky Kennedy is an Assistant Manager at the Market Basket store where Ray worked.  She said Ray was not the first child her family has lost.  She lost a brother years ago.

"She was real close with him and he stayed with her always.  It wasn't like she forgot about him.  I can't imagine, especially a second child, to lose two.  That's just unfathomable," said Kennedy.

Funeral arrangements for Blair Ray have been set.
