Court allows opponents of BISD election delay to have a say
The Federal Court Thursday granted a motion that allows a group of four candidates to intervene against a lawsuit that seeks to delay the Beaumont Independent School District's May board of trustees election.
Last month, Beaumont voter Paul Jones filed a lawsuit against BISD seeking to delay the May election. He claims the district has not yet obtained preclearance of the new district maps as required by Federal Law.
Marcelino Rodriguez, Donna Forgas, Linda Gilmore and Mike Neil filed a motion to intervene the lawsuit filed by Jones. Beaumont attorney Mike Getz represents the four candidates, and claims the lawsuit to delay the election is not in his clients interests.
Getz says they will now file pleadings in the lawsuit and argue why the election should be allowed to move forward May 11.
