Nederland ISD superintendent responds to newspaper's claims against district

Posted: Updated:

Updating a story you first heard on 12News HD, the Atlanta Journal Constitution conducted a study that flagged Beaumont and Nederland Independent School Districts for "high concentrations" of suspicious patterns in testing.

The report stemmed from the Atlanta public schools scandal, but did not accuse BISD and NISD of cheating, it just named the districts as two of 196 in which the newspaper found inconsistencies in test scores.  The  newspaper stated the findings warrant further investigation.

The day 12News did the story, Nederland ISD superintendent Robert Madding did not want to issue a statement, since he had not read the article.  But the next day, he sent us the following statement:

Channel 12 has stated that Beaumont ISD and Nederland ISD are on the defensive due to the

article from the Atlanta Journal Constitution. In my opinion, the AJC article has no validity as it

relates to the NISD. There is no cheating, nor has there ever been an allegation of such.

Areas in which we score low are immediately reviewed by administrators and teachers and work

begins in order to improve that area for the next testing cycle. We continually remediate students

with low scores and we continually review and revise our curriculum. Our teachers are trained on

the test administration and procedures each year as well as the test security. We report any and

all problems that may occur during testing to TEA and have never been cited for any

Teachers and administrators in the Nederland Independent School District have the highest

integrity, and our district has the reputation for doing what is right and in the best interest of our students.
